the british industrialists were not keen to introduce modern machinery in India in 19th century because-
1. cheap labour was available in india.
there was an availability of cheap man power here. this was a low costing prospect as compared to setting up industries.
2. setting up machines and industries was expensive.
setting up industries, importing machinery etc would have been quite expensive and time consuming for the british industrialists.
3. costly repairs
eventually machines would have broken down and would require replacement or repair. parts would need to be imported, this again would have costed time as well as money.
4. ineffectiveness of machines.
machines were not as effective or productive as their inventors and manufacturers claimed them to be.
5. lack of good transportation
means of transportation were slow and undeveloped in the 19th century. raw materials would take a lot of time to reach the industries. equally long time would have been needed to transport finished good to nearby markets.

The Victorian industrialists were not interested to introduce mechanism in England because of the following reasons:
1. There was no shortage of labour in England. Cheap labour was in abundance in England. So the industrialists did not want to use machines instead of labour which required huge capital investments.
2. Hand made goods with intricate designs and specific shapes were appreciated in the market and had high demand. Machine made goods with uniform standard were generally required for mass production.
3. The aristocratic class in Victorian England always preferred to use hand made products. They feel that hand made products were dignified enough to maintain their class and standard.
4. Hand made products had a good finishing, were carefully and exclusively designed and were produced by individual producers.
