why why can't there be four bonds between carbon and silicon

Carbon is more electronegative than Silicon. This makes Carbon more stable and eligible to catenate than Silicon.

astitvastitva: This is due to the size differences. The atomic sizes of Carbon and Silicon are not comparable and their orbital can repositions to overlap perfectly. Hence, four bonds among them seems primarily difficult to form.
