Why will we not get energy if we eat coal??

a coal-based diet would be problematic. The energy contained in coal, if it was ALL converted into useful energy would no doubt last us for ages - however, our bodies are not adapted to living on coal and much of this energy would be wasted. We, as others have pointed out, need other nutrients, vitamins, etc. in order to survive and would you want to live on a diet of coal? Maybe it could be eaten in small doses, but I don't think it is an answer to food shortages.

people using the coal to brush the teeth it will keep our teeth strong and white but we eat coal but you didn't get energy that nowadays people are not brushing with coal
