ocean currents are faster-moving flow of water in the ocean or generally a movement of mass of oceanic water in a definite direction.
Planetary winds(trade winds , westerlies and polar winds) play a vital role in the origin and development of Ocean currents. When these winds flow over oceanic surface of water , the tiny irregularities in the water called "capillary waves" transfer some of the energy from the moving air to water by friction,(i.e there is a friction b/w capillary waves which is generated in oceanic water & the moving air above) which cause wind to blow more rapid on mass flow of water. The water flowing beneath the wind forms a ocean current.
