•windward sides usually recieve heavy rainfall as the windward side is the side of a mountain which is towards the direction of prevailing winds.

•so, when moisture carrying winds come near a mountain , they are forced to move up that mountain and these winds shed their moisture on the windward side , so as to become light and go to the other side of mountain.

•when these winds pass to the other side they lack moisture or contain comparatively very less moisture, so the leeward side/rainshadow area gets very less rainfall as compared to windward side.

•hence, windward side gets heavy rainfall from winds.

as there is a barrier between the windward side and the leeward side so the clouds moving shed the rainfall so this place get heavy rain fall hope this helps you
