The current carrying wires have a coating of pvc or rubber because wires carry a high voltage of current that gives us a dangerous shock which is harmful for us.Therefore,the wires that carry current have a coating of pvc or rubber.

Electrical wires are made up of copper. Copper reacts with most carbon dioxide in the air and slowly loses its shiny brown surface and gains a green coat. Also a bare wire can result in a high electric shock to a person. So these are coated with plastic or rubber or pvc.
