The teeth of a gear one one axis mesh with the teeth of a gear on another, thus creating a relationship between the rotation of the two axes. When one axis is spun, the other will too.

When two gear are placed next to each other such that teeth mesh,turning of one gear causes the other gear to turn.In this way ,gears transfer force . because two gears that touch each other always rotate in opposite direction,gears also change the direction of that force.
