Woods and plastics are bad conductors of heat and electricity. When we are cooking, we are basically dealing with heat and moreover if we are using induction ovens and heaters for cooking,we are also dealing with electricity.
So just to protect us from heat and shock, cooking utensils use wooden or plastic handles...

Wooden and plastic handles protect us from getting hurt while handling hot utensils because they are insulators and they do not allow the heat from the utensils to flow to our hands.
