at the time of writing the novel Kashi yatre,the transport system in the narators village was far from being efficient.the villagers got the morning newspapers in the afternoon only.the weekly magazines used to reach the village by bus one day late.thus,everyone would eagerly wait for the bus.

In the story 'How I Taught My Grandmother To Read' Sudha Murty describes that the weekly magazine 'Karamveer" came every Wednesday to their village and the people would wait eagerly for the bus to arrive, for there in the magazine came the story 'Kashi Yatre' which everyone wanted to read. So, we can see that the villagers passed their time by reading/listening to the stories written by Triveni as they could identify with the characters in her story.
