Why would life not be possible on the earth in the absence of photosynthesis in short answer?

Plants produce food and oxygen during photosynthesis which essential for an life to exist on earth. We need oxygen to breathe and food to eat however most of the food is obtained from the plants. And the oxygen is also obtained from plants by the process of photosynthesis However all other sources of oxygen are not much essential.
