Xylem and phloem are known as complex permanent tissues as they are made up of more than one type of cells. These cells work in a coordinated manner, as a unit, to perform the various functions of the xylem and phloem. Tracheids are elongated, thick-walled dead cells with tapering ends.

The components of xylem are:
1. Tracheids- provide mechanical support
2.Vessels- Transport water and minerals
3.Xylem parenchyma- Stores food
4.Xylem Fibres- support plant

The components of vessels are:

1.Sieve Tubes- Transport food from leaves to other parts.
2.Companion Cells - Helps in the functioning of sieve cells.
3.Phloem Parenchyma- stores organic matter.
4.Phloem fibres- provides support
