why xylem is know as handrome and phloem is leptome?

Phloem transports organic food inside the body of the plant. Xylem performs the function of transport of water or sap inside the plant. Thus they form the conducting elements in the plant. Haberlandt used the term leptome for phloem and hadrome for xylem.
