Because when the sun sets, the sky becomes dark so we see light from the street lights etc.

when a beam if sunlight strikes a molecule in the atmosphere whats called scattering occurrs sending some of the lights wavelength off I'm different directions.This happiness millions of time before that beam get to your eyeballs on sunset
