Why zinc forms oxide whete as sodium forms base in water?

Answer:

valency of sodium(Na) is 1 and valency of zinc is 2 ; so zinc can form two bonds with water forming ZnO but for Na there is only one e⁻ to give for Oxygen so the other e⁻ is gained from hydrogen thus forming NaOH thus octet is complete for both the molecules. :-)
