Why zr and hf are chemically similar.

THIS IS BECAUSE ATOMIC RADII OF 4d and5d transition elements are nearly same.this similarity in size is consequence of lanthanide contraction because of this lanthanide contraction nearly equal to that of Zr and hence properties of an element depends upon its atomic radii, therefore, they show similar properties
