The answer is viruses contain unique genetic information. Some of the characteristics of life are the ability to grow, develop, and reproduce, and to maintain metabolism and homeostasis. Although they miss most of these characteristics, viruses contain unique genetic information which undergoes replication, transcription, and translation.
