2. The Prime Minister is the Chief Executive authority of India. He is the de-facto leader who is responsible for all the decisions. He is the link between the Council of Ministers and the President.

3. Article 56 of the Indian Constitution says that the President shall hold office for a term of five years from the date he takes up his post. He may resign from his office by writing his resignation to the Vice-President of India.

4. The President shall not be a member of either House of Parliament, of a House of the Legislature of any State, and if a member of either House of Parliament or of a House of Legislature of any State and elected as President, he shall be deemed to have vacated his seat in that House on the date of which he enters upon his office as President, (ii) the President shall not hold any other office of profit.

5. The nomination of a candidate for election to the office of the President must be subscribed by at least 50 electors as proposers and 50 electors as seconders.

6. The President cannot be elected by the people of the State. He/She is elected by the members of an electoral college consisting of the elected members of both the Houses of Parliament and the elected members of the Legislative Assemblies of States and the Union Territories of Delhi and Puducherry.

7. An electoral college is a set of electors who are selected to elect a candidate to a particular office. Often these represent different organizations, political parties, or entities, with each organization, political party or entity represented by a particular number of electors or with votes weighted in a particular way.

8. The Electoral College for Presidential Elections usually comprises of 706 votes. As many of the seats in National as well as in Provincial assemblies are still vacated hence, the number of votes in the electoral collage has reduced to 679. A minimum of 340 votes are required to win the Presidential elections 2018.
