Step-by-step explanation:

Widget Wonders produces widgets. They have found that the cost, c(x), of making x widgets is a quadradic function in terms of x. The company also discovered that it costs $16 to produce 2 widgets, $18 to produce 4 widgets, and $48 to produce 10 widgets. Find the total cost of producing 6 widgets.

c(x)  = ax² + bx + d

c(2) = 16

=> 4a + 2b + d = 16

c(4) = 18

=> 16a + 4b + d = 18

c(10) = 48

=> 100a + 10b + d = 48

from 1st two  =  12a + 2b = 2

from last two   84a + 6b = 30

84 a + 6b - 36a - 6b = 30 - 6

=> 48a = 24

=> a = 1/2

12(1/2) + 2b = 2

=> 2b = -4

=> b = -2

4(1/2) + 2(-2) + d = 16

=> 2 - 4 + d = 16

=> d = 18

c(x) = x^2/2 -2x + 18

x = 6

=6^2/2 -2*6 + 18

=18-12 + 18

= 24 $

amitnrw: x^2/2 - 2x + 18. for x = 6. 18-12+18 = 24 $
