Some people kill animals for food. Others hunt for the love of it. Millions of buffalo used to roam the western plains. Today they are found mainly in zoo’s and national parks. The forests used to be full of deer. Today there are few left. Lovers of these wild creatures soon began to worry. They saw that something had to be done. They did not want these animals to be lost.

          Many steps were taken to save all this wildlife. More national parks were started. This was good for animals. They cannot be hunted in national parks. Also, fees were charged for hunting licenses. Then too, hunting seasons were set up. Hunting was allowed only during certain weeks or months. And more game warden were hired. A game warden’s job is to see that hunting laws are obeyed.

          There is now another way to save wild animals. This can be done by educating the public. Children in school are being taught the value of these animals. The goverment is printing many little books on the subject. These booklets are reaching millions of people. Museums are also helping. They are preparing interesting nature magazines and films. Mang people are working to save wild animals.
