Yes they don't eat plants because plants mainly contain cellulose which animals cant digest and why i am saying animals because we humans too are animals . They can survive without plants but they can not survive without food.

Wild animals like lion, tiger and wolf do not eat plants directly as they have not proper digestive system to digest cellulosic materials and do not have appropriate arrangement to obtain nutrition from plant source ,,,but they are still dependent on the plants by eating the primary consumers like deers , buffaloes , antelopes , zebras,etc. which obtain their food directly from the producers (plants)....
