The Mughals started in 1528 but then collapsed and were chased out of India in 1540. They came back in 1555 but then lost large tracts to the Marathas by 1674 and, in 1788, became a protected submissive state of the Marathas. Altogether, it was a period of only 150 odd years of rule. So, they are not that influential. Akbar is the only one of them who is respected as a competent emperor. The ones before him are viewed as small-timers and the ones after as living off his borrowed glory (more below).
