There are 2 times as many nickels as dimes in a stack of coins worth $1.60. How many of each coin are in each stack? Please show the equation and the steps.

Here's your answer...

Let the number of dimes be x.
Then number of nickels is 2x.
Converting the amount to cents, we get 160 cents.
10×x + 5×2x = 160
10x + 10x = 160
20x = 160
x = 8
There are 8 dimes and 16 nickels in the stack.
