10% of glucose solution is a hypertonic solution,i.e. the concentration of solute in it is greater than the concentration inside the RBC.

When a mammalian cell(RBC-Red Blood Cell) is placed in a hypertonic solution, water moves from a region of lower solute concentration( RBC) to a region of higher solute concentration( glucose solution) in order to maintain the equilibrium.

Since the RBC loses significant amount of water to the surroundings by the process of exosmosis, it shrinks in size and becomes flaccid. This process is known as plasmolysis.
