1) No solids cannot diffuse because their intermolecular space is very less.
2) Smell of cooking can drift from kitchen even when there is no wind because gases have very large intermolecular space which helps then to diffuse with the air present. They gradually mix with air and forms a homogeneous mixture. This the reason.
