The statement can be explained with the story "Virtually True" in reference to Michael. Michael Dawson was a 14 year old boy, who is nutty about computers and saves a boy of his age from the psycho-drive games. When he was in situation of rescue, he lost thrice in the game but didn't lose his will power and finally achieved in the last game and successfully rescued Sebastian Shultz.

Hence will power and determination bring success against all odds can be explained.
