The answer is b) no in most of the cases.

Most of the solids like a table, do not compress due to their tightly packed particles. But, the are some exemptions.

For example,

A sponge:
A sponge has tiny air holes which traps air. When pressed these air particles rush out causing compression.

You can mention option (b) with the above exemption stated.

Yes, solids can be compressed but it takes much more energy to compress a solid as compared to compressing a liquid or a gas.
