Wilting of a plant result from excessive transpiration.

* The loss of rigidity of plants, drying out and withering of leaves is referred to as wilting.

* It is due to lack of water in the plants that is mainly caused due to the following reasons:

1. Transpiration

2. Vascular disease

3. Inadequate supply of water

* Transpiration is the loss of water from the aerial parts of plants. It can be either through the leaves( stomata), lenticles or cuticles.

Excessive loss of water through transpiration leads to wilting.
