area of square = 36 = side × side

side = 6 cm

perimeter = 4 × side = 24 cm

perimeter of rectangle = perimeter of square = 2 × (l + b)

24 = 2 × (l + b)

b = 2 cm

l = 12 - 2 = 10 cm

Area of rectangle = l × b = 10 × 2 = 20 sq. cm
