There is two festival in India considering the brothers and sisters. Raksha Bandhan is one of them. This is one of the biggest celebrations of Indian. The importance of celebrating this festival can not be neglected. This may be a religious festival of Hindu but it’s celebrated all over India by all Indian religions. This is also celebrated in the same way as one more Indian event takes place considering brothers and sisters, i.e. Bhai Dooj. The key difference between these festivals is that an amulet is tied. A sister ties that special band in her brother’s wrist.
It is believed that amulet consists of a sister’s good wishes. That amulet saves a brother from all dangers in life. A sister waits whole year for this great day. The girls go shopping to buy Rakhi, sweets, clothes and many more things. They keep fast for their brothers, worship good for brother’s success, spot the tilak on forehead. After spotting tilak, they lighten Diya in front of their brother and offer sweets to their brother and gets gifts too in return. Getting a gift from brother is the most exciting moment for sisters.
The back story of this celebration
A history is attached behind this celebration according to the Hindu mythology. Once Yumraj was too satisfied with her sister hospitality. Yam asked her sister to wish anything in blessing for return. Her sister asked not to separate any brother from sister by killing him. It was impossible for Yam. But Yam blessed her sister to tie amulets to all his brother for their long life. From then on words, Rakshabandhan is celebrated every year. The married girls or ladies went to their home before the festival and come back to their in-laws home after celebrating the festival. The bond between a brother and sister is so sweet and lovely.
