With a uniform speed, a car covers
a distance in 8 hours. Had the
speed been increased by 4 km/hr,
the same distance could have been
covered in 7 hours and 30 minutes.
What is the distance covered?

Let the distance covered by car in 8 hrs be x km

speed of car = (x/8) km/hr

increased speed = [(x/8) + 4] km/hr

time taken to cover with increased speed = 7.5 hr = 15/2 hr

Distance covered is same which is x= (Increased speed) (new time)

x = [((x/8) + 4](15/2) = (15x/16) + 30

—-> x/16 = 30

x = 480 km

Distance the car traveled is 480 km

Step-by-step explanation:

Let speed to be s.

Time = 8 hr

Distance = 8 × s

Now, when increase the speed,

Then, we have

New speed = s + 4 km/hr

Time = 7.5 hr

New distance = 7.5 × (s+4)

We known that, distance is same.

Then, distance = new distance

8 × s = 7.5 × (s+4)

8s = 7.5s +30

8s - 7.5s = 30

0.5s = 30

s = 30/0.5

= 60

Hence, speed = 60km/hr

Thus, distance = 8 × s

= 8 × 60 km

= 480 km
