Explanation:
It is a series of stages a cell passes through, to divide and produce new cells. This entire process where with the help of one single parent cell a new cell population grows and develops is known as the cell cycle.
Answer:
Interphase is the stage of the cell cycle in which growth and protein synthesis of the cell takes place. This is the phase in which cell spends most of its time, while the stage can be further divided into three sub-stages:
1) G1 Phase (GAP1): It is the longest phase of the three stages of interphase. Normal cellular processes such as cell growth and protein synthesis occur but no replication of DNA takes place. The chromosomes are not condensed hence are not visible.
2) Synthesis Phase (S phase): This stage follows the G1 phase and in this stage the replication of DNA takes place but no condensation of chromosomes takes place so they are not visible.
3) G2 Phase (GAP2): It is the stage in which the cell enters after completion of S phase. The cell carries out normal functioning of growth. By the end of this phase, cytoplasmic organelles are replicated and are ready for replication of the cell.
