Answer:

There are several things you can check to potentially increase the efficiency of your centrifigal pump:

Ensure its internal condition is up to manufacturer's specifications: are internal flow passages clear ( e.g. free of debris or casting flash). are internal clearances proper, is it free running, is it properly lubricated, is it mounted correctly (shaft bending torque free) on a firm bedplate (grouted properly if required by manufacturer) and coupled correctly to its driver (motor). Ensure it is assembled correctly utlizing correct fastener torques. Is the impeller rotationally balanced. Does the driving motor run true and vibration-free?

Ensure the attached piping is properly designed and supported so as to not impart excessive forces or moments on connections and not to impart unacceptable rotations or swirls in the suction fluid. Ensure the discharge piping is adequately supported and restrained to accomodate startup transients.

Ensure it is being operated correctly relative to system fluid conditions. Is there adequate suction pressure to prevent cavitation. i.e. is there adequate Net Positive Suction Head (NPSH) i.e. pressure above the boiling point of the fluid being pumped.

Ensure operating speed is correct.

Ensure it is being operated at flow and presure conditions that correspond to the maximum efficiency point on the manufacturer's design curves.

Actual flow and pressure output performance can be very finely tuned by the manufacturer by trimming of the impeller or undercutting the impellers, but this is a very sophisticated undertaking.
