16/25 and 7/11

To find that a number is terminating or non-terminating without actually dividing it we have to first find out the prime factorisation of the denominator.

25 = 5x5

11 = 1x11

We now have to check for this thing that the prime factorisation of the denominator has only 2 or 5 or both as its factors.

If the factorisation has any other number apart from these then the number is non-terminating.

Hence, 16/25 is terminating and 7/11 is non-terminating.
