Answer:

Q will finish in 14 days

P will finish in  21  Days

Step-by-step explanation:

Lets say P's 1 day work  = P

& Q's 1 day work = Q

With p starting the work, working on alternate days, p and q can finish a work in 17 days.

=> P works for 9 days  & Q works for 8 days

Work done = 9P + 8Q

If q works on the first day and q and p work alternately, the work is finished in 50/3 days

50/3 = 16 + 2/3 Days

=> Q works  for 8 + 2/3 = 26/3 Days  & P work for 8 Days

Work done = 8P + 26Q/3

9P + 8Q = 8P + 26Q/3

=> P = 2Q/3

=> 3P = 2Q

Work Done = 9P + 8Q  = 6Q + 8Q = 14Q

Q will finish in 14 days

9P + 8Q = 9P + 12P = 21P

P will finish in  21  Days
