With reference to the Indian Presidential Elections, consider the following
statements.
1. A member of a political party voting in defiance of the party’s direction
would attract the disqualification on the ground of defection.
2. The political parties can issue direction or whip to their members to vote
in a particular manner for the presidential elections.

i.) The members so disqualified canstand for elections from any political party for a seat in the same House.

ii.) Political parties cannot issue any direction or whip to members to vote or not in Presidential poll as it would be an offence and MPs and MLAs will not risk disqualification under Anti-Defection law in the process, Election Commission said on Tuesday.
