Although being a tough and roughly-built man, the marshal was kind. He was ready to help Mr. Easton at once when he realized his embarrassment in front of Miss Fairchild. Without caring of his self-respect, at once he made Miss Fairchild believe that he was the prisoner and Mr. Easton was the marshal. He wanted to save him from the moment of embarrassment when recognized as a prisoner in front of Miss Fairchild. If there would be any other generous person in place of the marshal, he too will try his best to help Mr. Easton.
