Hi friend,
Sher Singh, the protagonist of Journey by night is a brown and cheerful boy of about 12 years of age.He was a boy of the hills. He is a child of the jungle and is familiar with most of the areas and obstacles in the forest. He was the elder brother of Kunwar. He is quite responsible for when he sees his younger brother writhing with pain,he makes up his mind to do everything possible to comfort him and provide him the much needed relief. When their mother decides to send Kunwar to the hospital, about 50 miles away,Sher Singh knows that the situation is very serious. There are no railways at Laldwani and it only after crossing the jungle that people can board a train. There are no bridges on rivers and those which exist are quite low and weak. But nevertheless,he decides to save his brother and takes up the long and difficult journey through the dark forest by foot, with his brother tied on his back.
On the way to the hospital, the boy encounters several problems. He first comes across a cobra and became motionless but he was lucky as the snake retreated into the thick grass. Then came the peril from a whole herd of elephants.A tusker even came quite near him but it hurriedly went away with the rest of the herd after him.Sher Singh wades through the icy-cold,waist deep water of the river and crosses a flooded river with a broken bridge. He is quite bruised and wants to rest but he does not give up.He carries on his journey while trying to save his brother from all the adversities. After crossing the river,he boarded a bullock cart and then a truck and ultimately reached the hospital with his brother on his back.He was quite happy when his brother was declared to be out of danger.
His will power and determination to save his brother's life make him accomplish something that seemed almost impossible. He on the whole is strong figure who with his courage and strength of will saved the life of his brother.
Hope it helps!
