With the advent of plastic, a new and powerful enemy of environment has been born. For convenience-crazy humanity, plastic is a great boon, but for the environment it is a menace. Tonnes of plastic waste litters the streets, chokes drains and pollutes the environment. Waste plastic in dumps and landfill sites is causing death of many animals. Plastic debris floats in the sea and endangers sea birds. Look at the given cartoon and using the above hints and your own ideas, write a letter to the Editor of ‘The Hindu’ protesting against the growing plastic menace and giving suggestions for dealing with the situation. It can take hundreds or even thousands of years for plastic to break down so the environmental damage is long-lasting.
