Procedure: The insulated wire is connected across the battery. Then it is is moved through the distilled water. If distilled water could conduct electricity there would be change in the needle of the compass

Observation: there is no change in the  direction of the compass needle which signifies no movement of electron or current

Explanation:  a current carrying insulated wire acts as a magnetic field due to change in the magnetic flux however as distilled water is a poor conductor of electricity there is no chance of movement of electricity hence there is no change in the direction of the magnetic needle.
