with the help of a flowchart highlight the various types of plant movements with suitable examples
Answers
In plants two types of movements take place:
1. Tropic movements and
2. Nastic movements
Plant movements can be categorised into two which are vital movements and hygroscopic movements. The hygroscopic movement is a mechanism to disperse seed by plants. Vital movements can be divided into two which are- (1).Movement of locomotion and (2).Movement of curvature.
The movement of locomotion is divided into two parts which are- autonomic movement and paratonic movement. Autonomic movement occurs simultaneously in plants. In the plant cells, the cell organelles and cytoplasm move around the vacuoles which are an example of autonomic movement. Paratonic movements occur in response to external stimulus like light, chemical and heat.
The autonomic movement under movement of locomotion can be divided into ciliary, amoeboid and cyclosis. Ciliary movement takes place due to presence of cilia or flagella. Organisms like volvox, chlamydomanas can movement by cilia. Amoeboid movement takes place due to presence of pseudopodia. In cyclosis, the cytoplasm and cell organelles move around vacuoles in living cells.
Paratonic movement under the movement of locomotion can be divided into phototactic, chemotactic and thermotactic movement. Phototactic movement occurs in response to light, chemotactic movement in response to chemicals and thermotactic movement in response to heat stimulus.
Autonomic movement under the movement of curvature can be divided into variation movement and growth movement. Growth movement can be divided into- Hyponastic, nyctinastic, epinastic, nutational and circumnational.
Paratonic movement under movement of curvature can be divided into tropic and nnastic movement.
Tropic movement is divided into geotropic, phototropic, thigmotropic and hydrotropic, chemoctropic, thermotropic and aerotropic movemet. Nastic movement can be divided into-Nyctinastic, seismonastic and thigmonastic moevment.
