With the help of a graph paper, taking 1cm=1unit along both x and y axis: (i) Plot points A (0, 3), B (2, 3), C (3, 0), D (2, -3), E (0, -3) (ii) Reflect points B, C and D on the y axis and name them as B', C' and D' respectively. Graph is plotted for the given data's.

To find :

(i) Plot the given points in the graph : A (0, 3), B(2, 3), C(3, 0), D(2, -3).

(ii) Reflect points B, C and D on the y-axis and name it as B', C' and D'.

(iii) Co-ordinates of B', C'

(iv) Equation of line B'D'.

(v) Name the figure BCDD'C'B'B.

Given :

Take 1 cm = 1 unit along x and y axis in the graph.

(i) Plot the given points in the graph :

A (0, 3), B(2, 3), C(3, 0), D(2, -3) E(0, -3)        

Note :   1) Graph is attached below.

(ii) Reflection points of B, C and D on y-axis :

Reflection on the y-axis :

If the given point is (x, y).

Then its reflection point is (-x, y).

Reflect points B, C and D on the y-axis and name it as B', C' and D'.

B(2, 3) ⇒ Reflection of point B gives B'

B(2, 3) ⇒ B'(-2, 3)

C(3, 0) ⇒ Reflection of point C gives C'

C(3, 0) ⇒ C'(-3, 0)

D(2, -3) ⇒ Reflection of point D gives D'

D(2, -3) ⇒ D'(-2, -3)                    

(iii) Co-ordinates of B', C' :

Co-ordinates of B' : (-2, 3)

Co-ordinates of C' : (-3, 0)    

(iv) Equation of line B'D' :

B'(-2, 3) D' (-2, -3)

To find the equation of the line B'D' use the formula : y = mx + c.

To find slope (m) :

m = $\frac{y_2 - y_1}{x_2 - x_1}        

From the given points x_1 = -2  ;  x_2 = -2  ;  y_1 = 3  ;  y_2 = -3.

Applying the value in the slope formula we get,

m = \frac{-3-3}{-2-(-2)}

m = \frac{-6}{-2+2}

m = \frac{-6}{0}

m = ∞.

Hence,

Slope(m) is infinity.

The line is vertical.

y_1y_2 and x_1 = x_2.

The line passing through the point (-2, 3) intersects at x-axis.      

So, x = -2.

Hence, equation of line B'D' is x = -2.

(v) Name the figure BCDD'C'B'B :

Named the given points.
