take a glass tumbler or a beaker. fill water in it, till about half it's level. add 1-2drops of red ink or red food colour and shake slowly so that the ink gets evenly diffused in water.
cut the branches of plant with a soft stem bearing some leaves, like Balsham and dip it in coloured water. after sometimes you will observe streaks of red colour in the leaves. Also if you cut the stem vertically you will see raddish lines in the vertical section. This indicates that water containing red colour has been transported by the stem upwards.
