Answer: Acids show their acidic property in the presence of water since water provides a medium for the dissociation of the positive and negative charges of the acid.

Activity: Take a blue litmus paper and dip it in an acidic solution.

You will observe it turns red. Do the same with the acid in its gaseous state and you will see there is no color change.

By this we can conclude that acids show their property in the presence of water
