Answer:

Accepted Answer: Activity: To show that gases are highly compressible as compared to solids and liquids. ... You will find that the piston can be pushed more easily in the first syringe having air (gas). Thus, the extent of compression is more in gas while it is least in solid.

Explanation:

Take a air tight jar which has a piston over it.

  • 1st You fill the jar with small pieces of iron dusts and now u compress the piston.

what u find that piston does not move from its position by applying some pressure ,say x1

  • 2nd You fill the jar with water and now u compress the piston.

what u find that piston slightly move from its position by applying some pressure ,say x2

although the movement of piston is very slight , but it shows better movement as compared to the 1st case.

  • 3rd. You fill the jar with gas and now u compress the piston.what u find that piston move from its position by applying some pressure ,say x3. in this case you can move the piston more easily as compared to other two cases.

x3 < x2 < x1

so gases are more compressible than liquids and liquids are more compressible than solids.
