genes are the functional segments of DNA...it is a part of chromosome which controls traits.

let me take pea plant as example to explain you....let me take the trait tall and dwarf

a section of dna provides information for 1 protien cell and called as geneif protiens work efficiently then trait get expressed in a better way...pea plant height depends upon amnt of growth hormone released by protienif protien is efficient more growth hormone will be released and plant is tallerbut if protien is inefficient then plant will be shrorterthus through protiens present in genes, genes control the traits

hope my explanation is useful....

We have two genes which are recessive or dominant which come from our parents. When one gene is dominant, the child inherit the trait from that gene. But if both the genes are recessive then child will show that character ,which is shown in our body like attachment of ear lobes is a example of recessive trait whereas free earlobe is an example of dominant trait.
