Flow of energy in biosphere is unidirectional as it is the energy consumed by small organisms to big organisms. As the energy or food is passed from one organism to another 10 % of energy is reduced. Therefore Energy cannot be taken back or flow backwards, it is only flowing in a unidirectional way

Since only 10℅ of total energy get transferred to next trophic level so very less amount remains in the chain. So, the food chains are mostly unidirectional.
