THE FOLLOWING IS THE ACTIVITY TO DEMONSTRATE THE FERMENTATION OF SUGAR INTO ALCOHOL BY MICROORGANISMS.PUT SOME AMOUNT OF YEAST CELL IN A SOLUTION OF SUGAR PR LIME WATER .AFTER SOMETIMES THE LIME WATER TURN MILKY .THESE INDICATES THAT YEAST CELLS FERMENTED THE SOLUTION TO MAKE ALCOHOL AND ALSO PRODUCED CARBONDIOXIDE .

Experiment to demonstrate the fermentation of sugar into alcohol by microorganism:

  • The things which is required to conduct this test are Warm water, half teaspoon of yeast(microorganism), and sugar.
  • First of all, take 4 teaspoons of sugar and now add it to a jar having warm water in it.
  • Now add the microorganism .i.e yeast in the jar having sugar solution prepared above.
  • Now close the jar with a lid for some hours.
  • After a few hours when you will remove the lid of the jar, you will find the smell of alcohol coming out from the jar.
  • The smell is the result of the fermentation of the sugar by the yeast.

Observation:

  • Thus the Lime water transforms into milky in the presence of carbon dioxide.
  • This is the conventional analysis for validating the existence of carbon dioxide.
  • This will indicate that the method of respiration occurs in yeast, which releases carbon dioxide gas in the beaker.

Conclusion:

  • The anaerobic transformation of sugar to carbon dioxide and alcohol by yeast is called Fermentation.
