Tollen's reagent test: When both propanal and propane are heated with tollen's reagent, propanal gives metallic silver mirror deposited on the walls of the test tube.

CH3CH2CHO + 2[Ag(NH3)2]+OH- → RCOO- + 2Ag + 4NH3 + 2H2O

CH3CH2CH3 + 2[Ag(NH3)2]+OH- → No silver mirror

Answer: Propanal will only form a silver mirror when tollen's reagent is put into both the solutions.

Explanation:

Propanal is an aldehyde but propane is an alkane.

To distinguish between these two compounds, Tollen's reagent is added.

Aldehydes give silver mirror when Tollen's reagent is put into it and alkanes does not give any silver mirror.

The reactions for this test is given  in the image below.
