ELECTROLYTIC DECOMPOSITION REACTION :

The decomposition reaction which is carried by ELECTRIC CURRENT is known as Electrolytic decomposition reaction.

EG : Water is broken down into hydrogen and oxygen when current passed through it.

Hydrogen is in cathode and oxygen in anode.

2H2O is broken down into [ in the presences of electric current ]

2H2 + O2
