A concave mirror is called a converging mirrorbecause it brings incoming parallel rays together as shown below. It causes these rays to converge.
Convex mirrors are called diverging mirrorsbecause they diverge rays of light that hit them. Parallel rays of light that approach and reflect off a convex mirror will diverge from the focus of the mirror after reflecting.
